Which plan is right for me?

Upon becoming eligible for Medicare, you are presented with two primary choices. You may opt to enhance your coverage by adding supplemental plans and prescription coverage, or you can select a Medicare Advantage Plan. Below are concise descriptions of each option.

Original Medicare

Original Medicare includes both Part A & Part B and is provided by the government only covers 80% of your medical costs. If you need additional coverage, you choose from two options to fit your needs.

Original Medicare Includes:

Part A (Hospital)

plus

Part B (Medical)

Option 1:

Enhance your coverage with Part D and Medigap plans, which include Prescription Drug Plans and Medicare Supplement Plans.

Option 2:

Opt for Part C, which offers Medicare Advantage Plans as an additional coverage option.

The Federal government provides Original Medicare, comprising Part A and Part B, which covers your hospital and medical insurance needs. Part A benefits are offered without premiums if you meet the criteria based on your work history.

Original Medicare

Medicare Advantage, also referred to as Part C, combines Part A and Part B coverage. Medicare Advantage plans typically include additional benefits such as prescription drug coverage, dental care, and vision services in one bundled package.

Medicare Advantage

Medicare supplements, also known as "Medigap Plans," are designed to fill the gaps left by Medicare coverage. These plans can help cover deductibles and copays under Original Medicare and are sold by private insurance companies rather than the federal government.

It's crucial to understand that Medigap Plans are distinct from Medicare Parts; they are supplemental insurance plans.

Medigap Plans come in various types, such as A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, N (Note: F and C are limited to those eligible for Medicare before 01/01/2020). Premiums for these plans vary depending on the coverage.

It's important to note that Medigap Plans generally do not cover routine dental, vision, or hearing services. They also do not cover prescription drugs.

Supplements

As Original Medicare does not include prescription drug coverage, many individuals may choose to enroll in Part D. It's important to note that this is distinct from supplemental Plan D.

Part D coverage typically includes a premium, deductible, and co-insurance, which can vary depending on the specific plan chosen. These plans often feature tiered drug levels and require enrollment in Part A and/or Part B. It's essential to understand that Part D cannot be combined with Medicare Advantage plans and is limited to use at network pharmacies.

Prescription Coverage Part D

Medicare plans have varying coverage, with Original Medicare excluding dental and vision. Out-of-pocket costs for dental and vision care can be expensive, making additional protection a money-saving choice.
